The 2011 Bonita Vista Baron-Bonita Optimist Holiday Classic basketball tournament will include both a girls and boys division this year. Tournament dates are Dec. 27-30 at Bonita Vista High School.
The girls field features eight teams divided into two pools while the boys field includes five teams in one division.
This year’s tournament will boast an international flavor with teams competing from Canada (one girls team) and Australia (three boys teams).
In the girls tournament, Bonita Vista, Helix, Southwest and University City will comprise Pool A while Alhambra (Ariz.), Britannia (Canada), Chula Vista and Scripps Ranch will comprise Pool B.
Each of the girls teams will play three pool games, with placement games scheduled the final day of the tournament. The first place team in each of the two pools will meet in the championship game at 7 p.m. on Dec. 30.
Each of the boys teams will play four games — one game against each of the other teams. Bonita Vista will be joined by Diamond Bar to uphold bragging rights for the United States against the three Australian entries: two teams from Keilor and one team from Brisbane.
Bonita Vista will play Diamond Bar at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 30 to close out the boys tournament.
