Ex-husband has to pay

A Chula Vista man who was involved in an 8-hour SWAT standoff in an Eastlake neighborhood at his ex-wife’s home was sentenced Jan. 11 to 338 days he has already served in jail.

Omar Ernesto Acosta, 48, was ordered to pay $1,000 in damages to his ex-wife for shattering a dining room window with a baseball bat on March 28, 2011. He was placed on three years probation by Chula Vista Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sontag.

A restraining order barring Acosta from contacting his ex-wife and another relative remains in place, said Deputy District Attorney Mary Loeb. He was fined $1,224.

Acosta pleaded guilty Nov. 8 to felony assault of a male relative, and charges of making a criminal threat and vandalism were dismissed. He was released from jail Nov. 8 and no further jail time was ordered.

Loeb said the maximum sentence is four years in prison which could be imposed if he violates probation
