District 42 Little League Tournament of Champions crowns its 2011 champions

The 2011 Little League tournament season has officially begun! California District 42 — home of the 2009 Little League World Series champion Park View Blue Bombers — crowned its three team champions in this year’s Tournament of Champions playoff series on June 26 at Eastlake Little League.

They are the first champions of the 2011 tournament season that now continues with all-star team play.

In the 7/8-year-old Division, top-seeded Park View defeated third-seeded Eastlake, 10-4, while Sweetwater Valley emerged victorious in both the Minor League and Major League division finals.

Sweetwater Valley, top-seeded in both divisions, shut out second-seeded Eastlake, 10-0, to win the Minor Division banner and edged second-seeded Park View, 6-5, to take the Major Division title as well.

Hosting leagues for this year’s TOC event included Chula Vista National, Eastlake, South Bay and Southwest Little Leagues.

7/8 Division
Park View 10, Eastlake 4
Eastlake: Mora: single, double, two runs scored.

Park View: Legaspi: two singles, walk, three runs scored; Appleman: single, two runs scored.

District 42 all-star tournaments start this weekend

California District 42 was formed in 1960 and, in its present configuration, includes all Little League programs south of Highway 54 to the United States-Mexico border and from the Chula Vista city boundary in the east to the Pacific Ocean.

All-star team play starts Saturday, July 2, and ends July 12, with district champions advancing to Section 7 play — the next step in the road toward regional and national championships.
Here is a run-down on the district’s upcoming all-star team tournament.

Little League (9-10) Division
This year’s District 42 Little League (9-10) Division championship will be co-hosted by Chula Vista American and Imperial Beach Little Leagues. Nine teams will see action in the double-elimination tournament July 2-12.

The championship game is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on July 11 at Imperial Beach Little League. The District 42 champion advances to Section 7 play hosted by District 66.
Little League (10-11) Division

This year’s District 42 Little League (10-11) Division championship will be co-hosted by Chula Vista American, Imperial Beach and Luckie Waller Little Leagues. Five teams will see action in the double-elimination tournament July 5-12.

The championship game is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on July 11 at Imperial Beach Little League. The District 42 champion advances to Section 7 play hosted by District 42.

Little League (11-12) Division
This year’s District 42 Little League (11-12) Division championship will be co-hosted by Chula Vista American, Imperial Beach and Luckie Waller Little Leagues. Nine teams will see action in the double-elimination tournament July 2-12.

The championship game is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on July 11 at Luckie Waller Little League. The District 42 champion advances to Section 7 play hosted by District 41.
Junior League

This year’s District 42 Junior League Division championship will be co-hosted by Luckie Waller and Imperial Beach Little Leagues. Nine teams will see action in the double-elimination tournament July 2-12.

The championship game is scheduled at 5 p.m. on July 11 at Luckie Waller Little League. The District 42 champion advances to Section 7 play hosted by District 22.

Senior League
This year’s District 42 Senior League Division championship is a best-of-three series pitting Park View and Luckie Waller July 9-12 at Imperial Beach Little League (Mar Vista High School fields).

The teams square off in Game One at 10 a.m. on July 9 and play Game Two at 5 p.m. on July 11.

The District 42 champion advances to Section 7 play hosted by District 66.
