Christian Youth Theater will present “The Wizard of Oz” May 20-22 at Mater Catholic High School as part of its on-going after-school theater program. Sixty youths, ages 8 to 18, will participate along with parent volunteers.
The story is a familiar one. Little Dorothy Gale of Kansas, like so many girls her age, dreams of what lies over the rainbow. One day a twister hits her farm and carries her away over the rainbow to another world.
Audiences are invited to come join Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion and Toto as they experience adventures in a strange land while meeting folks of different sizes, shapes and colors and, along the way, learning there is truly “no place like home.”
Main characters include Paul Stine (Scarecrow), Mia Apalategui (Dorothy), Paul Downing (Tin Man) and Jake Gardner (Cowardly Lion).
The production, which is directed by Joshua Pontsler, features Broadway-style costumes and makeup, and song and dance productions. Performances are May 20 at 7 p.m., May 21 at 2 and 7 p.m. and May 22 at 2 and 5 p.m.
Tickets: Prices are $10 for youth ages 3-19 and $12 for adults ($15 at the door), with special discounts available for groups of 10 or more. For tickets, call 619-588-0206 or 800-696-1929, or order online at www.cytsandiego.org.
