The Southwestern women’s basketball team was happy to take a five-point halftime lead into the locker room against 12-9 Palomar on Wednesday.
The start of the second half featured a 15-2 run by the lady Comets, who surged ahead 44-36 with 13 minutes left in the game. SWC coach Darnell Cherry’s charges fought back feverishly and tied the contest 45-45 with 10 minutes left. When the dust settled Southwestern was on top 59-57.
Maureen Feegan dropped in 18 points for Palomar while Melanie Lombardi scored 15 for coach Leigh Marshall’s Comets.
Alexis Harris bagged 13 for Southwestern while teammate Kayla Payne scored 11. Lady Jaguar Chelsea Ball grabbed 15 rebounds before fouling out.
Palomar’s loss put them at 12-10 while Southwestern’s win moved them to 12-11 with four games remaining.
