The Chula Vista South Pony League will host a four-team international youth baseball tournament Feb. 11 at its Max Field complex (1500 Max Ave., Chula Vista). The tournament will pit the visiting Korean national team (one team of 12-year-olds and one team of 13-year-olds) against two travel ball clubs that play out of the CVS Pony facility — the Chula Vista Bombers and the Baron Baseball Club.

Two games will take place simultaneously, beginning at 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

“The kids are extremely excited,” CVS Pony League President Gabriel Diaz said. “They have been working out extensively for this opportunity.”

Edgar Gonzalez of the Gonzalez Sports Academy is slated to throw out the first ball at one of the 9 a.m. games. Chula Vista Mayor Cheryl Cox will hold a meet and greet with players and coaches following the conclusion of the tournament at 2 p.m.

The Bombers are comprised of players who also competed for Park View Little League and CV South Pony. Park View captured the Southern California state title in the 11-year-old division last year while the Bombers advanced to the Xtreme Diamond Sports World Series championship game two years ago.

“These are some of the best kids in Southern California who will be playing against the Koreans,” Diaz said.
