The Cherry Bomb Crushers, a 10-under girls soccer team from AYSO Region 116 (Bonita, East Chula Vista, Eastlake and Rancho Del Rey), will represent South San Diego when Section 11 competition kicks off in Garden Grove next month.
The team, coached by Mike Mau and Will Wimbish, earned the honor after capturing first place in two recent qualifying tournaments. The team earned the title of AYSO Region 116 league champions and then advanced to the AYSO Area 11-S playoffs against teams from regions 258 (Spring Valley/Lemon Grove), 290 (west Chula Vista), 581 (Paradise Hills/National City) and 712 (South Bay/Imperial Beach/Nestor/San Ysidro).
The Cherry Bomb Crushers completed their championship quest over two weekends in Spring Valley to emerge as South San Diego league champions.
The team’s roster includes Selena Wimbish, Michaela Mau, Angelina Arriero, Natalia Mendoza, Isabella Juarez, Lizet Mata, Lauren Reilly, Micaela (LaLa) Macario, Natalie Sanchez and Gazel Hergul.
The Section 11 league championships are scheduled Feb. 9-10 and the Section 11 all-star tournament is scheduled Feb. 16-17, both at Chapman Sports Park in Garden Grove.
