Carjackers headed to prison

Three men have been sentenced to state prison and two others await sentencing for their roles in a 6 a.m. carjacking in Chula Vista last year.

The longest term — 9 years and eight months — went to Danny G. Molestina, 28, because he was also sentenced for holding up a Circle K store in La Mesa with a machete on July 18, 2012.

A Chula Vista man was in his car in his driveway on July 22, 2012, and was loading his car with rare coins when Molestina and others took his car and coins, said Deputy District Attorney Matt Williams. The victim suffered a minor injury.

Chula Vista Superior Court Judge Theodore Weathers gave two-year prison sentences to Jorge Antonio Aguila, 43, and Eduardo Guerra, also 43.

Tory Corpening, 38, pleaded guilty to carjacking, robbery, assault and receiving stolen property, but he is attempting to withdraw his guilty pleas. A hearing on that, or sentencing if he is unsuccessful, is set for May 10.

Celestina Rodriguez, 34, has pleaded guilty to robbery and being an accessory, and will be sentenced on May 29. She is free on bond. Giana Lupo, 30, pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property, and was given credit for time served and placed on probation.

Williams said police found the victim’s car and it was returned to him, but some of the rare coins were lost.
