The exact meaning of the Bull Chicks logo remains difficult to fathom but one thing is certain: there’s no missing the fun at the new eatery in Otay Ranch.
“Our No. 1 goal is to create a cult following in every location we go into with fresh food and a fun environment,” said Bull Chicks COO Fred Perrin in advance of the restaurant’s grand opening on Feb. 23.
The eastern Chula Vista store, located at 1392 East Palomar, Suite 303, is the first venture for the modest franchise chain not only in the San Diego region but in California.
The company got its start in Corpus Christi, Texas, thanks to the patronage of students from nearby Texas A&M University. “Kids would come and write all over the walls to make it their own,” Perrin said.
The restaurants have gained a loyal following of fans and customers wherever they have sprouted up. Each outlet now has its own Wall of Fame.
Antonio Maldonado, who operates the Otay Ranch location with his wife Zulema, owns the San Diego region development rights. He’s hoping to provide a fun and safe place for local students to hang out after school.
“This is like a sports bar but without the alcohol,” he said. “We want people in the community to be part of this.”
Bull Chicks specializes in burgers, wraps, wings and salads — and makes a point of catering to picky eaters with a remarkably diverse menu.
The popcorn shrimp burger was a surprising find. Healthy menu choices abound with the wraps and salads.
The zesty-seasoned wings are especially tasty. Try the General Tso, parmesan garlic and orange glazes for an enjoyable bite.
Warning: The fresh-baked buns may become slightly addictive.
Bull Chicks’ concept of casual dining, family-friendly atmosphere (lots of sports on TV) and affordable pricing (burgers and wraps are $3.99 each) appears to be a winner.
Part of the overall fun experience is interacting with the service staff. You’ll have to drop by to find out more.
