The 10U Gold Bonita Valley girls softball team ventured to Poway the weekend of June 15-17 to take on some of the county’s best girls All-Star teams in the Poway Summer Heat Classic.
The Bonita Valley team came back from a 5-0 deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat North Shore, 14-5, to capture the championship title.
That only served as a prelude to last weekend’s South San Diego District championship tournament in Santee where the Bonita Valley 10U Gold team finished 5-0 to bring home a district banner following a 3-0 victory against Imperial Beach.
The victorious Bonita Valley players battled heat and back-to-back games to put together an amazing weekend. The team now heads to the Southern California state championship tournament in Lancaster July 6-8 to compete against the top teams in California.
The Bonita Valley Girls Softball 10U Gold team is comprised of 11 girls: pitchers Zaia Castruita and Destinee Noury, catchers Karinna Renteria and Isabelle Talavera, infielders Abigail Tanuma, Arlene Martinez, Kaylee Foley and Areili Nava and outfielders Kayla Geasland, Paulina Guerrero and Anna Custodio.
Bob Foley serves as the team’s manager while coaches include J.P. Noury, Shig Tanuma and Cesar Renteria.
The Bonita Valley 14 Gold team also will compete in Lancaster after qualifying for the state championship tournament with a fourth-place finish at the district finals.
