‘Blaster’ says he is guilty

A 19-year-old Chula Vista man pleaded guilty to attempted robbery at a shopping mall just after his case was assigned to a courtroom for trial.

There is no sentencing agreement for Fernando Zaragoza, but the maximum is three years in prison, said Deputy District Attorney Heather Trocha.

Sentencing was set for today by El Cajon Superior Court Judge William McGrath. Zaragoza remains free on his own recognizance.

Two teenage brothers were heading to their car from Wal-mart in Grossmont Center on June 19 when Zaragoza approached them, asking them if they wanted to get “blasted.” Zaragoza pretended he had a gun and demanded money.
