Arzave selected to participate at 2017 USA Swimming National Select Camp

South Bay Aquatics swimmer Julissa Arzave has been selected to participate in the upcoming USA Swimming National Team Select Camp in Colorado Springs.

South Bay Aquatics swimmer Julissa Arzave was chosen as one of 48 girls from across the country to participate in the USA Swimming’s National Select Camp Oct. 19-22 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

“We are very excited for Juli to get this amazing opportunity,” said SBA head coach Tom Paradowski. “She has shown tremendous dedication to her sport and has been a rising star in the San Diego swimming community. As a high school athlete at Bonita Vista High School, she made the finals at the state championships the past two years.

“This summer she finished 11th at the Junior Nationals in the 1,500-meter freestyle event and qualified for the Senior Nationals. Juli also was the Western Zone champion in the 5K open water championships. This elite camp is another step towards her ultimate goal of qualifying for the 2020 Olympic Trials and competing for a spot on the United States Olympic team. All of her teammates at South Bay Aquatics are very proud of her.”

During the three-day camp, Arzave will experience the day-to-day routine of a national team athlete and utilize the state-of-the-art training facilities. The campers will learn from top professionals on topics such as post-race recovery, psychological training skills, nutrition and race strategy.

Arzave is one of 96 top USA Swimming athletes – 48 male and 48 female – selected for the camp. Swimmers are selected from the SWIMS database of top times during the 2017 qualifying period, where the three fastest athletes in each event, ranging from age 14 to 16, are invited to the camp.
