Art show will be hands on

An artwalk is coming to Chula Vista, however this one breaks the mold of traditional ones.

The HeART on Center event was put together by the ideas and research of San Diego State University’s LoCAL Arts Collaborative students.

“We put a lot of thought in the event, it’s all art-based and interactive,” said Tawnie Vargas, 26, an SDSU student. “It’s not a hands-behind-the-back event, it’s very hand-on.”

The free event for all ages will feature art, live musical performances, demonstrations, and a musical petting zoo where individuals will get to play different instruments.

A course at SDSU called Sustaining Our Community through the Arts is described as a structure to provide students the opportunity to gain undergraduate research experience and engage them in civic-learning focusing on real-world challenges within the local community.

“The class is based on sustaining the community. We wanted people to know who Chula Vista is by creating this art-based event,” said Vargas.

The event was created and researched by 15 students.
HeART on Center  will be on Center Street between Third and Del Mar avenues from 4 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 11.

Approximately 1,500 people are expected to attend.
