Theater chain brings new sound to Plaza Bonita

The next time you watch a movie at the AMC Plaza Bonita 14 in National City, you might notice a better movie experience.

American Multi-Cinema had partnered with Dolby Labortaries, Inc. to bring a Dolby Cinema to 100 AMC theaters by the end of the year, and 160 by the end of 2018.

The AMC Plaza Bonita location at 3050 Plaza Bonita Road got a Dolby Cinema because of the continual audience demand for the luxury movie going experience, said Stuart Bowling, director of content and creative relations at Dolby.

Dolby Cinema at AMC  is said to enhance and elevate the movie going experience  by a great theater design combining high-quality picture and booming sound technology with innovative seating.

“As soon as movie goers walk into an auditorium they will be blown away by how different these theaters look between the matte black interior, the stadium seating and the Dolby Atmos sound,” Bowling said.

Dolby Cinema includes Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Dolby Vision is state-of-the –art authoring and playback imaging technology that enables the cinema to being the story alive on screen. Dolby Atmost  gives audiences real sound into the movie with real sound that fills the cinema and flows all around them.

Bowling said with dramatic imaging the picture comes alive with astonishing brightness, contrast and color that more closely matches what an eye can see. He said Dolby Cinema also encaptures  moving audio that can be heard throughout the entire auditorium and innovative stadium seating.

“Once the movie starts then they’ll notice an incredible difference in the image quality that we are able to deliver with these high economic range Dolby Vision projectors and then emersing the audience in combination with our Dolby sound system,” he said.

There are hundreds of Dolby Cinemas around the world today with AMC being the largest provider of Dolby Cinemas in the U.S., Bowling said.

“The goal here with AMC is to deploy these across the major markets that they perform in and then also begin to proliferate the rest of their theaters,” Bowling said.
