Xolos offense resurfaces Jose Guzman | Sat, Mar 22 2014 01:00 PM

Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente scored three goals for the first time this season and as a result defeated Puebla FC  3-1 at Estadio Caliente.

The Xolos, who seemed to resuscitate their offense after beating the LA Galaxy in a weekday game,  opened the score in the 2nd minute when forward Fidel Martinez centered a ball to Dario Benedetto who beat the defender marking him and sent a strong header into the back of the net.

With an early lead Club Tijuana was able to remain in charge of the game and limit Puebla’s offense in the first half.

In the second half both teams came with a lot of ambition but it was the locals who would score in a great play orchestrated by midfielder Cristian Pellerano who gave an awesome pass to Edgar Castillo, who then  gave an assist to Martinez who sent a soft shot to the right side of the goalkeepers net.

The visiting team fought for possession in the closing minutes and scored a goal thanks to American player DaMarcus Beasley who helped Maicon Dos Santos by giving him a fine pass to  beat goalkeeper Cirilo Saucedo.

With the goal Puebla changed their strategy looking for the draw but instead forgot to protect their zone and the Xolos took advantage of the situation. Midfielder Fernando Arce received a pass and controlled the ball then discharged a shot that easily beat goalkeeper Jorge Villalpando.

With the result the Xolos are 6th overall in the league standings with 17 points and hopefully they can finally win an away game next week when they visit Gallos Blancos de Queretaro.
