Xolos home a winning venue Jose Guzman | Sun, Jan 26 2014 12:00 PM

Winning at home is essential for Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente since they remain unbeaten at home for the past nine months and Friday night was no exception.

The Xolos defeated Monarcas Morelia 1-0 in a dramatic game where both teams had opportunities to win. Team captain and defender Javier Gandolfi scored in the 62nd minute when in a free kick he  sent a strong header that the goalkeeper couldn’t reach.

The Xolos continued attacking since they wanted to build a better lead and minutes later Fernando Arce would score a goal however, they referee said that Arce was offside and a one goal lead remained.

Monarcas also had several chances but the Tijuana defense managed the situations and added their third clean sheet of the season showing that this team has a powerful defense that can carry this squad towards the top places in this Clausura tournament.

Now the next challenge for the Xolos is to win road games since they have not played well away from Estadio Caliente.

Coach Cesar Farias mentioned that their next objective is to improve and create more goal situations.

“My objective is to always win and today after a tough game we earned the three points,” he said. “Tonight we beat a good team like Morelia, a team that the we had never defeated before since joining the first division so this victory is important.”

Two weeks ago in their home opener against America,  Pellerano received a pass from midfielder Edgar Castillo who then stroked the ball directly towards the opponent's net for the lone goal that would provide the team their first favorable result since they had not played well in their season debut against last week.

But this offense still has not awakened since none of their forwards have scored a goal this season and they have only scored three goals in total.
