Suspended teacher to appear

A suspended teacher from the learning center of Chula Vista High School will get a trial date set on June 24 on charges he allegedly possessed and shared child pornography images on his computer.

Roberto Antonio Sandoval, 42, has pleaded not guilty to both charges in U.S. District Court in San Diego. He posted $150,000 bond on Feb. 18 after his Jan. 21 arrest.

Sandoval worked at the school’s learning center in an independent study and alternative educational program that aided students who need additional help to meet graduation requirements. He was placed on paid leave after charges were filed.

An FBI special agent used a government computer to log into a publicly available peer-to-peer file share program and obtained six files from Sandoval’s computer that depicted young girls engaging in sexual activity on Aug. 9, 2015, according to court records.

The FBI served a subpoena to Cox Communications to learn the identity of the customer using an IP address that shared the files on Aug. 24. Cox identified the customer as Sandoval in San Diego.

The FBI seized all computer equipment at his home on Jan. 21. A relative told a KFMB-TV reporter that Sandoval had purchased an old computer on E-bay that was seized by authorities.
