Suspect in Apple smash and grab pleads not guilty Allison K. Sampite | Wed, Apr 06 2011 04:24 PM

A suspect involved in a shooting and attempted robbery at the Apple store in Otay Ranch Town Center in Eastlake Monday was arraigned at the South County Courthouse today.

Johnny Chenda, 25, pleaded not guilty to several crimes including attempted murder, robbery and burglary, assault with a deadly weapon and felon in possession of a firearm.

Deputy District Attorney Carlos Varela said if Chenda is found guilty of all charges, he could face more than 50 years in prison.

Judge Roderick Sheldon set Chenda's bail at $500,000 after Varela asked that the initial $100,000 bail be increased to reflect all charges.

Chenda's readiness hearing will be held May 11 at 8:30 a.m.
