Robber sentenced to 25 years Neal Putnam | Sat, Sep 28 2013 12:00 PM

A 25-year prison term was handed down Sept. 10 for one of two men who held up two businesses in Chula Vista in 2012 and 13 other firms elsewhere.

Alex Sanchez, 24, of San Diego, was given 20 years for discharging a firearm in a Clairemont 7-Eleven in the second robbery in the series. Deputy District Attorney Martin Doyle said the gunshot hit the wall and no one was injured.
San Diego Superior Court Judge Eugenia Eyherabide imposed consecutive and concurrent terms to equal 25 years. She ordered Sanchez to pay an average of approximately $150 for seven stores which requested reimbursement, Doyle said.

When Sanchez pleaded guilty to 14 robberies and one attempted robbery, he was told the sentence range was between 22-28 years. Doyle asked for 25 years while his attorney sought 22 years. He received 390 days of jail credit.
The second suspect, Luis Alonso Cruz, 25, pleaded guilty to all counts Aug. 27 and will be sentenced Nov. 22. Cruz faces at least 30 years in prison, as he also pleaded guilty to felon in possession of a firearm. He was on parole for burglary in 2010, according to court records.

Both Cruz and Sanchez admitted to robbing various stores in 2012.
