Prelim set for aide

A preliminary hearing for Feb. 21 was confirmed last week for a Chula Vista middle school aide who has been charged with inflicting corporal injury upon a child and child endangerment.

Michael Cobb, 44, of Chula Vista, has pleaded not guilty to the charges filed against him in Chula Vista Superior Court.

He remains free on his own recognizance.

Cobb was a special education assistant at Bonita Vista Middle School at the time of the alleged incidents, said Manny Rubio, spokesman for the Sweetwater Union High School District, on Monday.

The corporal injury charge says it occurred on March 7, 2016, and the child endangerment count says that occurred on Feb. 18, 2016. The charges were filed Dec. 12, 2016, according to court records.

A judge signed a protective order that says Cobb must stay 100 yards away from the two boys.  Authorities have not disclosed details about the alleged incidents.
