Police looking for Woodlawn shooter Allison K. Sampite | Sat, Dec 11 2010 12:00 PM

The Chula Vista Police Department is investigating the homicide of 32-year-old San Diego resident Jesus Ruiz that occurred before 2 a.m. Sunday in the 500 block of Woodlawn Avenue.

Police received several calls from people who heard gunshots. Several witnesses reported they heard yelling in the street followed by gunshots and a crash.

According to Chula Vista Police Capt. Gary Wedge, Ruiz's vehicle was stopped when he was shot at close range by a Hispanic male adult who fled northbound on Woodlawn on foot. Ruiz then lost control of his vehicle, which struck several cars parked along the street.

Ruiz was found dead at the scene in the driver's seat with at least one gunshot wound to the head.

The weapon used was a large caliber handgun that has not been recovered. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Sgt. Kenny Heinz at (619) 691-5202.
