MENDOZA

Navy Seaman Recruit Angel J. Mendoza of Chula Vista recently completed U.S Navy basic training.

During the eight-week training, Mendoza completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety.

Mendoza is a 2010 graduate from Chula Vista Senior High School of Chula Vista.

PERIOLA

Cadet Martin Enriquez Periola of Chula Vista was recently honored for outstanding academic achievement at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, during the fall semester of the 2010-2011 academic year.

Periola achieved Dean's List recognition, which is given to those cadets and active duty military students registered for 12 or more semester hours whose grade point ratio is 3.2 or higher.

In addition, Periola earned a Gold Star for achieving a 3.7 grade point average or higher.

WEATHERSPOON

Navy Seaman Apprentice Josiah Weatherspoon of Chula Vista was recently promoted to his current rank upon graduation from recruit training.

Weatherspoon received the early promotion because of his outstanding performances during all phases of the training cycle.

Training included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety.
