Industry scholarships build on future

Juan Ibarra and Sunny Patel received a total of $7,000 in scholarship monies from BIA Cares. A total of $10,000 was given out. Kelsey Kwasnica was also a recipient.

BIA Cares, the charitable foundation of the Building Industry Association of San Diego County, awarded three local students with scholarship checks totaling $10,000 at a BIA breakfast in June.

The recipients included: Juan Ibarra, a graduating senior from Hilltop High School, who received $4,000; Kelsey Kwasnica, a graduating senior from Carlsbad High School who took home $3,000 and Sunny Patel, a college student at the University of San Diego, majoring in Real Estate, received $3,000.

” We reviewed numerous applications and conducted thorough interviews. All three of the chosen students had GPA’s over 4.0 and have shown an interest in pursuing careers in the building industry,” says Ryan Martin, chairman of scholarships for BIA Cares. “We’re so pleased to give awards to these worthy students.”

BIA Cares, now celebrating its twenty years of giving, has raised more than $2.9 million for local charities. The foundation helps to build better communities by sponsoring such projects as providing play facilities for children from substance abuse families, underwriting a literacy garden for an elementary school
