Home win a convincing one Jose Guzman | Mon, Sep 09 2013 12:52 PM

Tijuana's victory Saturday should restore some of the Xolos’ confidence as well as earning it three key points after defeating Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz 3-0 at Estadio Caliente.

After struggling throughout the season Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente finally played a perfect game. Not only did they score three goals but more importantly the defense step up its game and accomplished a shutout victory.

Fidel Martinez found the net in the 34th minute when Diego Olsina sent a low driven cross to a solitary Martinez who sent the ball into the net without any defenders or the keeper to intervene.

Four minutes later the Xolos struck again when Olsina sent a free kick and Pablo Cesar Aguilar sent a powerful header that easily beat goalkeeper Edgar Hernandez.

With a two goal lead the opponent began attacking much more and that helped the Xolos since they were able to find more open spaces throughout the field and with a counter attack orchestrated by the gifted midfielder Cristian Pellerano they completed the victory with the last goal of the night. In the 66th minute Pellerano sent a deep pass to a speedy Martinez who once again beat the defenders covering him with his velocity and found himself only against Hernandez he then chipped the ball over the keeper for his second goal of the night.

Xolos coach Jorge Almiron said that this victory would give them some tranquility and the confidence to continue improving.

“For us it was vital to win tonight so we can maintain our aspirations to qualify to the playoffs,” said Almiron, “The team played an amazing, we were finally able to close a game. Now as visitors we need to be more solid since we are obligated to qualify.”
