HarborFest brings buzz to bay

Chula Vista HarborFest is back for its fourth year this Saturday, Aug. 20 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Bayside Park at the Chula Vista Marina.

The free event will feature live music, food, craft beer, Baja wine tasting and a street taco and spirit competition as well as water activities. There will be musical performances by Vokab Kompany, Los Hollywood, Los Hijos Del Santo and a few other acts.

Newly added attractions and activities include a pet parade, and a pet oasis and expo with the opportunity to adopt a new pet.

HarborFest is a free event, but certain areas will be ticketed areas. Taco and Spirit Tasting are $30 for unlimited spirit and taco samplings. Tacos only samplings are only $25. Craft Beer will be available for purchase. Ten 4oz of craft beer for $20 at the Craft Beer Uprising. Have a full pour of Baja wine for $10.
Proceeds from the event benefit city of Chula Vista.

Amongst the event’s highlights is a classic car expo, which will display more than 60 classic cars along Bayside Park.
As if that is not enough, there will be many outdoor activities such as rock climbing, bungee jumping, inflatable slides, bounce houses, Frisbee, golf, volleyball, laser tag and encounters with Living Coast Discovery Center.

The annual event started small with a couple hundred people in attendance and has grown to thousands. This year event organizers expect about 15,000 guests, compared to 10,000 last year.

“This is one of the largest events in Chula Vista,” said Taylor Kahle, event at McFarlane promotions, the organizer of HarborFest. “It started small and got bigger and bigger every year.”

Kahle said HarborFest is about showing off the city’s beauty to all attendees.

“We want people to comeback to Chula Vista and see how beautiful the city is with the event happening near the water,” she said.
