Gunshot wounds and jail time Neal Putnam | Sat, Oct 29 2011 12:00 PM

A fugitive who was wanted for robbing a South Bay store and was wounded by U.S. deputy marshals has pleaded guilty to two robbery charges.

Cedric Black, 22, will be sentenced Nov. 9 in Chula Vista Superior Court to one year in jail, said Deputy District Attorney Jeffrey Dort.

Dort said Black pleaded guilty to committing a May 16 robbery in a South Bay store in which he punched a clerk. Black also pleaded guilty to snatching a woman's purse after the victim left a bus on Feb. 16 in San Diego.

Dual warrants were issued for his arrest, and he was spotted June 15 in a Lemon Grove grocery store parking lot. Deputy U.S. marshals tried to arrest him, but he got into a car and drove off. They tried to pin him in his car with vehicles, but Black struck one car and allegedly tried to run down a deputy.

A deputy marshal opened fire and Black was shot in the arm after his windshield shattered. Black again drove off, but he crashed his car on College Grove Way. He was arrested and taken to a hospital. Black remains in the George Bailey Detention Facility without bail.
