Ex-teacher now a sex offender

A former teacher at a Chula Vista High School learning center has pleaded guilty to receiving digital computer images on his home computer of a 9-year-old girl in sexually explicit conduct.

Roberto Antonio Sandoval, 43, will be sentenced Aug. 25 by U.S. District Court Judge Janis Sammartino. He remains free on $150,000 bond and lives in San Diego.

Sandoval faces a mandatory mininum sentence of five years in federal prison and the maximum term is 20 years, according to court records.

He will have to register as a sex offender with law enforcement in whatever community he resides after his release.
Sanoval worked in an alternative education program with the Sweetwater Union High School District. He was initially placed on leave after his arrest in Jan., 2016.

The charges are federal because his computer received images that affected interstate and foreign commerce. Four similar  charges against him will be dismissed at sentencing.
