Driver punished

A South Bay man who struck and killed an elderly woman in National City was sentenced Friday to two years in state prison.

Alejandro Hernandez Lomas, 44, pleaded guilty to hit and run and causing the death of Elana Huerta, 81, who was struck crossing Highland Avenue near East 19th Street, said Deputy District Attorney Ryan Karkenny.

Chula Vista Superior Court Judge Theodore Weathers denied probation and gave him credit for 132 days already spent in jail along with a $504 fine.      Weathers dismissed a charge that he was driving on a suspended license.
