Driver convicted of manslaughter

A drunk driver who killed a Chula Vista woman has pleaded guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving on the wrong side of a highway.

Enid Diane Mayer-Sheaf, 61, was killed July 22, 2015, after the vehicle driven by Anthony Perez Rodriguez, 30, struck her car head-on on Carmel Valley Road near Camino del Sur around 6:20 p.m.

Deputy District Attorney Lauren Ogata said Rodriguez faces a maximum term of 10 years in state prison. San Diego Superior Court Judge David Gill set sentencing for March 4.

Rodriguez, of San Diego, remains free on $100,000 bond on condition he abstain from alcohol and attend two meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous per week. He also must stay out of bars and wear an ankle bracelet that detects if he consumes alcohol.

Rodriguez takes Antabuse and lives with his wife and two relatives in North County. He earlier surrendered his driver’s license, said his attorney Jan Ronis.

According to testimony in the Nov. 10 preliminary hearing, Rodriguez began drinking at a San Diego Padres game and later went to a bar. He continued drinking later at a friend’s home and then crashed into Mayer-Sheaf’s vehicle while driving home.
