Court date in DUI related death of Chula Vista woman

A preliminary hearing for Nov. 10 was confirmed Tuesday for a man suspected of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated in the July 22 death of a Chula Vista woman.

Enid Diane Mayer-Sheaf, 61, was killed in a head-on crash with a car driven by Anthony Perez Rodriguez, 30, of San Diego, on Carmel Valley Road near Camino del Sur in Rancho Penasquitos.

Rodriguez is also charged with drunk driving, and driving on the wrong side of a highway with more than .15 blood/alcohol level, which is nearly twice the legal limit.

Rodriguez appeared before a San Diego Superior Court judge who confirmed the hearing date, and he remains free on $100,000 bond. Rodriguez has an ankle monitor to detect whether he drinks alcohol.

Rodriguez has another bond condition that requires him to attend two self-help meetings such as Alcoholics Anonymous per week and to submit proof of attendance, according to court records.

A prosecutor tried to increase his bail, but a judge denied the request on July 30. Rodriguez has pleaded not guilty.
