Cops arrest man for attempted murder Carlos R. Davalos | Sun, May 15 2011 12:00 PM

Police arrested a man last night they are charging with attempting to kill a Chula Vista police officer.

James Martinez, 20, was arrested at approximately 10 p.m. in Imperial Beach in connection with an April 23 incident in which Martinez attempted to run over a police officer.

The incident occurred after police responded to a shooting on the 500 block of Davidson Street. The victim pointed to a car Martinez was driving from the scene. Police chased the vehicle into a cul-de-sac in the 500 block of Madrona.

Martinez attempted to escape by driving out of the cul-de-sac and attempting to run down the officer, police said.The officer received multiple fractures to his foot.

Police said Martinez is a gang member. He is charged with attempting to murder a police officer.
