Convincing victory at home

With an attacking game plan Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente returned to victory and remains unbeaten since Daniel Guzman became the new head coach.

Friday’s opponent Club Santos Laguna, who is currently 4th overall in the league standings, proved to be a hard opponent but in the end the Xolos managed to win with a 4-1 score.

The first goal arrived within three minutes of the first half when forward Alfredo Moreno took the upper hand on a defensive mistake and skillfully bypassed goalkeeper Oswaldo Sanchez and sent a formidable shot into the net.

Club Tijuana had two more opportunities but was unable to score in the first half. Then in the 32nd minute a penalty in favor of the Santos was called when Greg Garza fouled forward Darwin Quintero from behind. Juan Pablo Rodriguez, an expert penalty shooter, beat keeper Cirilo Saucedo for the equalizer.

After the 1-1 tie the opponent’s confidence increased as well as their opportunities of scoring. Their creative midfielder Mauro Cejas placed a shot into the post in what could have put Santos ahead.
But in the second half Tijuana’s offense woke up and in the 47th minute forward Dario Benedetto assisted Moreno who overpowered the defender and then crossed his shot to Sanchez left for the 2-1 lead. Minutes later Benedetto would score his goal in a similar way to Moreno’s goal since he received a pass from the center of the field and he crossed his shot to beat the goalkeeper who could not stop his strike.
Striker Dayro Moreno scored the fourth goal in the 90th minute when he was given a pass sent from the Xolos territory and beat two defenders as he used his head to take possession of the ball into the keepers box then, and placing the ball on his right foot to sent a potent shot into the goal as Sanchez was incapable of stopping such attack.

Coach Guzman said that his next goal is to win an away game.

“My team played with personality and that is the product of the work in training, our virtue was accuracy and I hope that we continued having it.”
