Complaint filed against councilwoman Allison K. Sampite | Sat, May 14 2011 12:00 PM

A complaint was filed against Chula Vista Councilwoman Pamela Bensoussan last week, alleging she violated the Political Reform Act - a law that governs the conduct of public officials and campaign committees.

The complaint was sent to the Fair Political Practices Commission by Chula Vista private investigator Derrick Roach, alleging discrepancies with her 2008 campaign mailers. He asked that the commission investigate the matter and take appropriate administrative, civil and or criminal action.

Roach stated that Bensoussan either intentionally or negligently failed to disclose a reportable contribution in regard to discounted postage, which he states she and treasurer Georgie Stillman received for campaign mailers and "constitutes an illegal gift."

Bensoussan said she never handled any mail directly during her campaign. "I don't have any information that relates to the accusations because my mail was all handled by my consultant in Los Angeles," she said.

Bensoussan said Roach has a track record of trying to influence elections by throwing accusations at people who are political opponents of his. "Instead of having honest dialogue about issues, he seeks political gain by making derogatory accusations," she said.

Roach was unavailable for comment.
