Castrated man is released

A judge has ordered the release of a sexually violent predator who was convicted of molesting a Chula Vista boy and his friend in 1987.

The release of Allen Louis Fields, 57, to a Campo residence will take place on or before Oct. 24 under the supervision of Liberty Healthcare, the contractor agency responsible for supervising registered sex offenders.

“The proposed placement is lawful,” said San Diego Superior Court Judge Margie Woods last week. “The court will approve and authorize this placement.”

Fields, who sometimes uses a wheelchair or a cane, was castrated in 2003 at his own request while serving his 25-year prison term he was given in 1988. After his term ended, he was housed at the Coalinga state hospital after being declared a sexually violent predator(SVP).

Woods said she could find “no legal basis” to deny the placement. The District Attorney’s office also noted they could find no legal reason to keep Fields in the hospital, where authorities had recommended his release after a dozen years of therapy.

Woods toured Campo and visited the 5-acre site where Fields will live. She thanked sheriff’s deputies from the Campo station for showing her around. Campo residents spoke out against the release in two hearings.

Fields has been in custody since 1987 after two 10-year-old boys reported he molested them in his trailer. One of them was the son of Fields’ co-worker, and he was convicted of four counts of molestation. A court document said Fields’ castration has “reportedly diminished his libido and caused him to no longer have deviant sexual drives or fantasies.”
