Fidel Martinez scored a last minute goal that gave the Xolos a victory over Millonarios FC in the last group stage match of the Copa Libertaodres Wednesday at Caliente stadium.

In the 36th minute Alfredo Gonzalez had a clear opportunity to score but missed his chance as did forward Raul Enriquez whose shot on goal was blocked by goalkeeper Luis Delgado.

The game would remain scoreless until in the dying minutes of the second half Noe Maya send an magnificent pass to Martinez in the penalty box who, with an elegant right foot touch beat the goalie and scored the game winning goal that concluded in 1-0 victory for the Xolos.

Mohamed said that the it felt good to win and that he values the attitude of some players.

“This victory leaves us satisfied, unfortunately we could not qualify as first place but we had the points to finish first,” said Mohamed. “We will receive first at a home since we finished second in the group but this is a good experience for us. I think we made more points than we had initially contemplated and this is an example that this group of players wants to continue to achieve more.”

He also said that his team now need to think about Saturday’s league game against Cruz Azul and then next week’s against Morelia and seek victories in those two games if they want to qualify to the league’s playoffs.
