An accused teenage bank robber has also been charged with attempted sexual assault of a woman in National City.

The alleged assault occurred Feb. 26, but Nelson is also accused of two bank robberies in Chula Vista and National City in June, according to court records.

Nelson appeared June 30 before Judge David Szumowski and waived his right for a speedy preliminary hearing.

He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and remains in the South Bay Detention Facility on $1 million bail.

Nelson is accused of attempted rape, robbery and kidnapping of a woman on Feb. 26. Nelson is also accused of robbing the U.S. Bank on H Street in Chula Vista on June 18, and the Chase Bank on East Plaza Boulevard in National City on June 15. Nelson is also accused of robbing an adult bookstore, a pool supply business, two other banks and a water store in San Diego.

Nelson was arrested by National City police and U.S. marshals at 2 a.m. on June 21 as he was returning to his vehicle on East Plaza Boulevard.

Nelson, whose last address was in Hemet, was convicted of robbery and attempted robbery in 2009, according to records.
