MR. PADILLA FOUGH THE HARD FIGHT FOR THE GOOD OF THE TAXPAYERS OF CHULA VISTA - to loose by a mere 2 votes speaks volumes. McCann has lost his edge and I have no doubt that McCann will further expose himself as a City Council member and his tenure in politics will no doubt come to an end. It is no secret many old supporters have become disenchanted with antics and the melodrama that seems to follow him no matter where he goes. Wonder if he ever asks himself 'why is every body always picking on me'? If only those in his inner circle would take him out behind the wood shed and toughen him up a bit - BE A MAN, knock off the preverbial whining. Like I said winning by a mere 2 votes says it all - McCann has lost his appeal and he has himself to blame for it. ****I saw in a picture that the Council seated him all the way at the end of the dais, smart thinking!!!! - close to the exit, that way when his tenure up at the door he will go!!!!!

Oh,,,, what a difference a Mr. Pike, a Mr. Solis, a Mr. Segura, a Ms. Hall and Mr. Tarantino made at this evenings Board meeting. NO, it will no longer be business as usual - folks, we have 5 community members who are engaged and obviously committed to do the right by our students, we taxpayers and all employees of SUHSD. It was a tough crowd tonight, as most meetings are - however it was clear the tone has changed and the 5 are going to lead us in a new direction. Discussion, imagine that there was actual discussion on several items. At this rate I may soon be able to retire from SUHSD board meetings.

A new day is dawning - one built on respect, trust and transparency. It was after all these 3 requirements that the voters were looking for prior to voting in our 5 new Board members. We welcome you and goodness knows we need you. So rest up because you are going to need to hit the black top running.

Meanwhile, the lawsuits continue, with two contractors who worked for Sweetwater being sued by the district to return $26 million as their bids were allegedly approved due to the famous "pay to play" system. We hope that the new board will do much, much better, and will manage to "unravel" all the Ed Brand real estate, charter school and other schemes that persist in draining the finances of the district. Oh--how is that forensic accounting report coming along. I don't mean to give the new board a hard time, but they have real work to do. I hope they are ready!

What a wonderful story! My grandparents were child immigrants, each with a unique tale to tell. Unfortunately, farmers were too busy keep scrapbooks and the backbreaking day-to-day toil was not noteworthy anyway. How fortunate you are to have a documented history in your family!

Thanks for continuing to share some of your favorite columns from Richard's plentiful supply.

His kindness was always evident, and it served as a welcome reminder of the great people who have contributed so much to this area.

Yes, anniej, it wouldn't really be fair to inflict the temperament of McCann on youngsters we are trying to teach lessons of good sportsmanship and good citizenship to. It might confuse them.

sosocal - well,,,,, McCann has always proclaimed himself to a great athlete (paraphrase) - even though others growing up in his era can't seem to recall that attribute.

I would be more inclined to attest to his 'self promotion' - none better than McCann in that.

Well, I am leaning toward the opinion that McCann's best option for a career is Little League pitching coach, after watching the video of his windup and delivery of the unspecified object launched in the direction of someone's pickup truck.

What a great story about your Grandfather. I see some resemblance, and in character also. How much hair under that Police hat?

Chula Vista's City Councils loss is Sweetwaters gain.

Tread carefully Mr. Davalos - your New Years gift may very well end up be the receiving of McCann's first cease and desist letter as a C.V. City Council member.

One common topic of conversation at last evenings SUHSD Boards swearing in ceremony ''free at last, free at last -we are free at last of John McCann" - (NO DISRESPECT TO MR. KING INTENDED)

Been hearing a great deal about the Republican's Party wanting to engage the populace - well,,,, they might want to begin by offering candidates that gain Party membership vs. loose it.

As always - just my opinion

OMG- Victor is the spitting image of his progeny -Detective Tom Basinski, who migrated to San Diego to continue to fight crime. Tom has added to the family accomplishments as a police officer, an investigator with the DA's office, a writer and a comedian. My only query- was Barber Victor as bald as Tom?
