correction, the district and SEA had not "tentatively agreed to insurance benefits but the district pulled out of the deal in the final hours." The ULP strike refers to a violation of an agreement on benefits that was SIGNED by all parties. It is NOT part of the current negotiations but is a violation of the currently signed contract.
the weed Says:
Well, for those that are going through what you and your family has endured....I wish them the best. You pretty much explained other negative factors to be dealt with .........
I heard this same speech at the LCFF meeting on Friday. Brand gave this as his presentation instead of talking to the issues of the LCFF and the impact on the district. All four of the other superintendents gave power point presentations. Brand tried in vain to give a hyped technology speech. Everyone was shocked he didn't speak to the real issue. Brand lied to the public after asking Rubio if the LCFF material was on the district website in English and Spanish. Rubio said yes. Well it turns out Brand doesn't have the information up in any language,as per his instructions to staff. Just another lie from Fast Eddy. He was the joke of everyone there, talking about his arrogance, and lack of preparation.
Fran Brinkman Says:
McCann's timing is great as usual. His run for City Council has officially begun. Unfortunately we are going to have to put up with this self aggrandizing behavior for weeks to come. Barf bags not included.
The players of Sweetwater High are GREAT! All of their hard work has paid off and they should be proud of how far they have come. This loss does not define you, your record does. You represented the South Bay proud.
Congratulations to the student athletes and their Coaches. Many practice hours and much perseverance has resulted in a great season. Continued good fortune!!!!!!
Cheer Mom Says:
OMG, this guy is a total joke. SELF - SERVING ALL THE WAY! I wish he would just go away. I am surprise he didn't mention his military service! Listen up Chula Vista, he did nothing when he was on city council. Remember we used to count on our fingers how many times he would mention his military service? and roll our eyes. We got rid of him and now he has had a hand in ruining Sweetwater.
Typo ---- keyboards for IPADS were 'NOT' included.
David Danciu Says:
Was this story a paid political ad? Do all the candidates now get the same space? just wondering!
One rather large part of learning that Ed Brand perpetually seems to conveniently forget is the concept of ethics.
Ed can spray all the glitter he can buy on what he is trying to sell, but people who know what is going on will always see things for what they are.
Perhaps Ed still fools himself, and his fellow board members John McCann and Jim Cartmill (even Pearl Quinones seems to be catching on that it is time to break away from the Fast Eddy food chain)but the rest of the sentient universe has learned by heart the words: "If Ed Brand's lips are moving, he's lying!"
Ed Brand cares not one whit for the students OR the teachers. He cares for himself and his bank account. Time to try and "unwind" Fast Eddy's contracts.
Fascinating that none of what is written here in "humble" mode broaches ANY of the Sweetwater problems that McCann has done nothing about.
Because McCann, despite his claim that he would clean up the district, has done nothing of the sort. He has gone along with all of Brand's schemes.
McCann approved Brand's contract(s)--providing Brand and his wife with gold-plated medical care for life--while he is now part and parcel of the effort to take away teachers' medical coverage.
Despicable. Contemptible. Disgraceful.
"SELF-SERVING ALL THE WAY!"
Now, there's a campaign slogan that suits McCann.
It is interesting that Mr. Bband claims his staff has been working hard to implement Common Core - according to public comment, at board meetings, the teachers claim the exact opposite.
Take for example the Intial purchase of the IPADS - that was done approximately two years ago - yet, no keyboards for those IPADS which is a much needed tool for Common Core were included in the purchase. Mr. Brand continues to do what he is known for 'the spin doctor'.
Perhaps Mr. Brand might want to explain why, when we have been exposed for deficit spending, and advised to stop - Mr. Brand is moving forward we a proposed expenditure of $18 million for a new District office on the east side. Mr. Brand purchased the property on L street then turned around and handed the deed over to Plan Nine Partners. We have only been paying interest on that loan, and are, in fact, upside on the loan in the millions. Mr. Brand needs to be reminded he is a school Superintendent, whose primary focus MUST be students education - how about getting some of our schools OUT OF PROGRAM IMPROVEMENT!!!!!!!!
Perhaps Mr. Brand might want to explain why SUHSD consistently borrows from Mello Roos funds?
