Great story! Great cause! These scholarships have assisted several young adults in the South Bay area over the last few years!

I live in NJ; Tom Basinski was my cousin.I am interested in your story (obit) which is incomplete and instructs to click for continuation. Try as I may, that is ineffective. Is there a way I can get the complete story? The one about his last story written by fellow columnist is complete (an as all of Tom's, delightful. Thank you.
Yep. The district should investigate SEA leadership for misuse of funds. Didn't they tried to make up a bogus claim last year about someone misusing funds? There's more to that story...soon soon soon :-)))
I really do hope that of the many concerns facing Mr. Stover, one will be the status of all the lawsuits facing the district. I believe the softball field lawsuit is still a going concern despite the field itself having been refurbished and very playable for a number of years now. So--getting a handle on all the lawsuits, disentangling the district from the real estate schemes/fiascos, removing admin staff who are still trying to run things based upon the wishes of departed superintendents...yes there are quite a few areas that really need correcting in Sweetwater. Let's hope everyone remembers just how much John McCann put into correcting those problems, because that would be approximately zero calories dedicated to that cause.

Nancy, the fact that you chose this subject for your article proves that you are a success as a parent -- and a writer!
How about an intern SEA president next. Our current one, Roberto, always pops off about eating, drinking, traveling, and eating some more. Now we know were all the union dues go to! Why isn't the union more transparent with their budget. See for yourself. https://twitter.com/roberto63
Will be eagerly awaiting the next Star News story. Of course the biased SD Reader won't investigate SEA.
Perhaps those involved in this effort have lost sight of the fact that the land proposed for this new stadium is in a flood plain. A cursory review of San Diego history depicts a plant (building) floating down the flood plain. There is plenty of land near the 905 - which would offer convenient access to those south of our border. The area discussed in this article, poor choice.
Arnold Rosa Says:
Lets get this done San Diego deserves MLS team for a long time now. If done rigt we can sell out every game. Chula Vista is the perfect location for a stadium lets get this ASAP.
Oh what a difference a new Board, makes - a Board filled with integrity. Following Ed Code - adhering to bylaws? Back in the old days under the previous Sup. Brand and Board the bylaws would simply have been 'updated' to meet the direction of Brand's directive.
As always, just my opinion.
Interesting photograph accompanying this article--it sure looks like Miesen and Googins see eye-to-eye on things.
But what about the rest of us? What about all the 'just too sweet and comfortable' situations that Chula Vista's city government appears to like?
Here's a thought--when we vote for people to represent us, we expect that they will represent us--not monied interests, not those who quietly try to run things behind the scenes and behind all our backs.
How about some real, honest representation, Chula Vista politicians? Anyone feel ready for that
What a change that would be.
I applaud Mr. Schillings efforts. It is very unfortunate that it takes legal intervention to find out what goes on in these matters.
Is it a coincidence that with the reappearance of John McCann on the city council, problems with transparency occurred? We do know that while he was on the Sweetwater board, he was not a stellar example promoting good governance, despite all his puffery.
What's up with the board members not able to schedule a meeting? Blame the teachers union. The union advocated for 4 of these 5 board members. Yet they can't find time to serve the public/citizens?
