'Extremities' now playing at OnStage Playhouse Staff Report | Fri, Jan 07 2011 03:10 PM

OnStage Playhouse is now presenting William Mastrosimone’s “Extremities” through Jan. 29 at its intimate downtown Chula Vista theater.

The production is directed by Holly Stephenson and produced by Teri Brown and Desiree Peters.

Marjorie is attacked in her home in 1980s rural New Jersey by would-be rapist Raul. Circumstances allow her not only to resist the attack but to turn the tables and lock him away in her fireplace.

And that is where her dilemma really starts. Does she release him and risk another attack? Does she go to the police and risk being called a liar?

Or does she kill him — and become as low as he is?

Her roommates come home to discover the attacker bound with cords, belts and other household items.

“Extremities” was first performed off Broadway in 1982. It opened at the Westside Theatre in New York with Susan Sarandon and James Russo and ran for 325 performances. “Extremities” was adapted for film in 1986 and starred Farrah Fawcett.

What she did to survive is nothing compared to what she’ll do to get even.

The cast features Robin Boyington as Marjorie, James Michael McCullock as Raul, Lori Duncan as Patricia and Carla Navarro as Terry.

Performances are Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $16, with senior, student and active military discounts at $14.

Upcoming shows in the 2010-11 season include “Last of the Red Hot Lovers” by Neil Simon Feb. 18 to March 19; “Sordid Lives” by Del Shores April 8 to May 7 and “Swingtime Canteen” by Linda Thorsen Bond, William Repicci and Charles Busch May 7 to June 25.

“Lysistrata,” which is not part of OnStage’s regular season, will play off nights Jan. 8-23.

OnStage Playhouse is located at 291 Third Ave., Chula Vista. Call 422-7787 for more information.
