CYT delights locals with production of ‘Peter Pan’ Press Release | Fri, May 10 2013 03:06 PM

Peter Pan will swoop onto the stage in Chula Vista and delight children of all ages in the fast-paced, musical journey to Neverland courtesy of South County Christian Youth Theater.

CYT’s production of the J.M. Barrie classic runs May 10 to 12 and May 17 to 19 at the Mater Dei Catholic High School theater.
“Peter Pan” is about a boy who just won’t grow up. Theater-goers can join Peter, Wendy, John and Michael as they fly out of the Darling home nursery to Neverland where the adventure begins.

Peter and the Darling children will take on the sinister Captain Hook and his comical band of pirates. They will also befriend Tiger Lily and her tribe, mermaids and Neverland animals … and, of course, Peter’s adventurous gang of misfits, the Lost Boys. Nana and the Croc add to this magical and timeless production.

The CYT production embraces the magic of childhood. It is a story for both the young and young at heart. Its musical score includes such songs as “I Won’t Grow Up,” “I’m Flying” and “Ugg-aWugg,” plus dynamic choreography.

More than 90 local youths make up this talented cast of actors, singers, dancers and technical crew to provide a charged mix of vibrant characters, classic villains and tuneful score that brings this magical show to life.

Principal cast includes Danny LaPointe, 17, of Calvary Christian Academy as Peter Pan; Emilie Powers, 12, of Lutheran Pilgrim School as Wendy; T.J. Kendrick, 14, of Bay Shore Educational as John Darling; Justin Stella, 11, of Coronado Middle School as Michael; and Leif Corbeil, 18, of El Capitan High School as Mr. Darling/Captain Hook.

“Peter Pan” is team-directed by Janie Russell Cox and Renee Kauffman with musical direction from Chula Vista resident Tony Powers. Francine Maigue, a Chula Vista High School alumna, joins the show as a guest choreographer.

Mater Dei Catholic High School is located at 1615 Mater Dei Drive. Show times are 7 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.

All seats are reserved and ticket prices are $12 ($15 at the door). For tickets visit www.cytsandiego.org.
