Interesting photograph accompanying this article--it sure looks like Miesen and Googins see eye-to-eye on things.

But what about the rest of us? What about all the 'just too sweet and comfortable' situations that Chula Vista's city government appears to like?

Here's a thought--when we vote for people to represent us, we expect that they will represent us--not monied interests, not those who quietly try to run things behind the scenes and behind all our backs.

How about some real, honest representation, Chula Vista politicians? Anyone feel ready for that

What a change that would be.

I applaud Mr. Schillings efforts. It is very unfortunate that it takes legal intervention to find out what goes on in these matters.

Is it a coincidence that with the reappearance of John McCann on the city council, problems with transparency occurred? We do know that while he was on the Sweetwater board, he was not a stellar example promoting good governance, despite all his puffery.

What's up with the board members not able to schedule a meeting? Blame the teachers union. The union advocated for 4 of these 5 board members. Yet they can't find time to serve the public/citizens?

I see someone delights in posting as those who have posted in SDReader articles. I don't know who WTFed is, nor do I care whether he gets the interim position. I am not a district employee in any way. Concerned parent of district students, both current and past.

I do hope the new board is able to get their schedules synched up, and are able to make a well informed choice.

I enjoyed this story when it first ran and I enjoyed reading it again, particularly since it had such a gratifying ending. As for the part about a light going on in a usually empty head... oh, how I identify with that! (The empty head -- more and more as I age. The light going on -- not so much!)

Curiouser and curiouser...as board members just begin to find their sea legs, they are called upon to evaluate candidates for interim superintendent, and then 3 out of the four remove themselves from consideration. Because they wanted to be considered for the permanent position? Because?

Then, scheduling difficulties have been named as the reason the interim spot couldn't be filled. I am guessing that the board needs a few more serious candidates to consider. Mr. Rindone did not distinguish himself in his previous position as a member of the County Board of Education. On the contrary, he did nothing while Sweetwater crashed and burned. Somehow I don't think Mr. Rindone is capable of making a valuable contribution.

Sandra Huezo is the best choice for interim. If this happens, I will have influence on the board and the district again.

I hope WTFed gets the Interim Superintendent position. He gave me a district office position with power to oversee all the schools site plans.

Yes! I now call the shots!

I will begin by imphatically stating THE LAST THING WE NEED IS JERRY RINDONE SITTING ON THE DAIS - as 'our' representative on the County Board of Ed he did NOTHING, NADA, NIL. when I contacted him for help with the Gandara situation he advised me his sec'y would be calling me - well,,,,, I am 4 years older and still no call.

With regards to the implications in this article I have personally attended, meetings, workshops, audit sub committees and have seen the hard work this Board is doing. People, they have been in office for a little over 2 months can we give them a bit of a break - hell, we witnessed dysfunction and corruption for how many YEARS with the last 3 bunches - the only 2 who stood up for the students and taxpayers were Mr. Mercado and Ms. Lopez. Now, all of a sudden, we want Rome built in a day.

We voted them in because we believed in them and their integrity - so, can we cut them some slack? I personally do NOT want the expense of a national search - but then it is not my decision as I did not run.

I have seen and worked hard against the old guard - and am willing to do all I can to work with the new guard.

I know Tom, as I was a National City copper. I really enjoy reading his stories. These open up a window as to who he is. He was tough to play basketball against and a really good investigator.

I am very disappointed and surprise these members are using their jobs as excuses to not do the job they asked for. No one put a gun on any of their heads. They should of known what they were getting into when they decided to ask the community for our trust and vote.
As far as I know the previous board members also had full time jobs and families. The question is - didn't this board members realize the commitment they were applying for when they ran for office?? Did they just run to keep other truly committed citizens from giving the students education the attention it needs? I will repeat what I have been saying for about 10 years now... The students who are in the district now, can not be asked to pause their education and college applications to wait for the people, who took on the responsibility of their education, to have some time. We elected all of them to start correcting the system this district follows ASAP not in a few years when the students have graduated and we have done a disservice to them ... they are the client and it is so sad to see they are widening the gaps for them to fall through.
