Taste of Third served early in 2012 Phillip Brents | Thu, Mar 08 2012 12:32 AM

Organizers of the 17th annual Taste of Third & Art Walk have to hope spring showers do not put a damper on this year’s event, which had carved out a niche for itself over the past several years in September.

This year’s event is scheduled March 15 from 4 to 8 p.m.

The self-guided tour allows participants to walk from restaurant to restaurant along Third Avenue, sampling signature dishes throughout the heart of Chula Vista’s downtown district.

Italianissimo Trattoria, My Cup of Tea and City Market will be joining this year’s lineup.

In keeping with tradition, the Taste of Third tour will be surrounded by extensive art displays. Last year, chalk artists decorated the 24 Hour Fitness Plaza with lemon-themed artwork. They will return this year with spring-themed designs.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the Third Avenue Village Association office located at 353 Third Ave. Call 422-1982.

Performing arts calendar

Chula Vista’s OnStage Playhouse will present “Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead” through March 31. Visit the Web site at www.onstageplayhouse.org or call 422-7787 for details.

As part of the symposium, USA Swimming will also host a Save a Pool workshop. This workshop, hosted by USA Swimming staff members Mick and Sue Nelson, will provide options on giving new life to aquatic centers.

The 11th annual 2012 National Drowning Prevention Symposium will take place at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa and Marina in San Diego from March 7-10. The symposium is an annual event put on by the National Drowning Prevention Alliance in an effort to raise awareness of water safety. All swimmers, coaches, officials, volunteers and fans of swimming are encouraged to attend.

Registration is required and is available online. More information about the NDPS is available at ndpa.org.
