Taste ... and Sip of Bonita set June 26, fund-raiser for Bonita Museum and Cultural Center Phillip Brents | Fri, Jun 20 2014 02:32 PM

The Taste … and Sip of Bonita, hosted by the Bonita Museum and Cultural Center, will take place Thursday, June 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bonita Golf Club, 5540 Sweewater Road.

The event serves as a primary fund-raiser for the museum, according to Barbara Scott, a member of the museum’s board of directors.

“This is our big fund-raiser for the year,” she said. “We’re hoping for lots and lots of people. Everyone on the board has been working hard to make this a fruitful and fun event.”

Thursday’s event is open to individuals 21 and older. Scott said that is due to the presence of the wine- and beer-tasting portion of the event this year.

Tickets to the event cost $30. The price includes both the wine and beer tastings as well as the food tasting. More than 20 restaurant vendors from Bonita and the surrounding Chula Vista and Eastlake areas will participate.

Besides the tasting, a silent auction will also take place. Among the more than 30 prime auction items are dinner with the Bonita/Sunnyside district firefighters, a family membership to the South Bay Family YMCA, tickets to Chargers and Padres games as well as theater productions, concerts, gift cards for local restaurants and donated professional services, including dog grooming and accommodations for two nights at the KOA campground.

Clint Bell will serve as emcee.

Board chair Patty O’Mara said this is the most restaurants to participate in a taste.

Savory dishes will be served up by local eateries Via Lago, Karina’s, Romesco, Murrieta’s, Sanzel Inc., Cotija, Kasi, Chula Vista Golf Course, Savoie French and Italian Eatery, Macaroni Grill, Applebee’s, Trader Joe’s, Nothing Bundt Cakes, House of Nine Dragons, Bonita Villa Senior Residential Center, Thai Taste, T’Liscious Desserts, Lolita’s, Donny’s Café and the Bonita Golf Course.

Guests may also sample creations from several microbrewers and vinters from Bonita and the surrounding countryside.

Doug Chase, owner of Bay Bridge Brewing in Chula Vista, is providing beers to taste, including the popular Bonita Blonde brand.

Classic Wines of California, a local wine distributor, is providing wines to taste.

Tickets are available for purchase at the Bonita Museum and Cultural Center, 4355 Bonita Road. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the door, beginning at 5 p.m.

The museum, located at 4355 Bonita Road, is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call (619) 267-5141 or email bonitamuseum@sbcglobal.net.

Dodgeball, anyone?
Sky Zone San Diego, an all-walled trampoline park, will host an event on Thursday, June 26, that expects to shake up traditional sporting competition: ultimate dodgeball.

Sky Zone San Diego’s Ultimate Dodgeball Championship local qualifier is one of more than 50 scheduled at Sky Zone parks across the United States and Canada. Teams of all skill levels are invited to compete for a chance to win a local qualifier and move on to the regional tournament set Aug. 8-9 in Las Vegas.

The final eight teams from the regional tournament will then advance to the championship tournament, scheduled Aug. 10, where $50,000 in cash prizes will be awarded.

Ultimate Dodgeball combines the athleticism and excitement of traditional dodgeball with the thrill aspect of the world’s first wall-to-wall trampoline park’s patented playing court, making it a one-of-a-kind experience.

Sky Zone San Diego’s local qualifier is set to begin at 7 p.m. The facility is located at 851 Showroom Place, Suite 100, Chula Vista.
