Xolos tie good for third, skeptics

Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente were stymied by the goal posts that prevented them from scoring several times in what could have been a victory Friday night.

Instead the Xolos tied 1-1 against Chivas, who are now currently first in the Liga MX standings and Tijuana’s team continues to postpone their playoff appearance for at least another week because they are winless in their past four games.

The draw, however, should calm those critics who are skeptical how this team will finish the the season. It is certain that both teams will qualify and perhaps faced each other in the liguilla.

Forward Dayro Moreno was close to opening the score in the third minute on a bicycle kick that went just wide of the goal. Minutes later he produced another excellent play with a back heel pass to striker Gabriel Hauche whose shot hit the post.

Minute’s later defender Jesus Chavez scored on a header that bounced off the turf before passing the Chivas goalkeeper who couldn’t reach the ball.

In the end of the first half defender Carlos Sacido had a golden opportunity when he received the ball inside the keeper’s area however his shot hit the post as well.

Chivas put an end to the Xolos lead as they scored on a questionable play by forward Omar Bravo who scored on what seemed like an offside play, much to the joy of the Chivas fans present who made up a majority of the attendance at Estadio Caliente .

In the 31st minute things had shifted as the visitors now had possession of the ball as forward Carlos Fierro almost gave his team the lead when Xolos hero Cirilo Saucedo saved his net. Minutes later forward forward Marco Fabian opportunity failed as he hit the post and his counter shot missed as well.
