A Chula Vista man who killed his 77-year-old mother in 2008 had his sentencing delayed Wednesday; it was re-set for Feb. 18.
George Moises Ramos, 46, is expected to receive 16 years to life in prison for the matricide and another four years consecutively on a separate case in which he injured an officer. Ramos also admitted to possessing illegal drugs.
Ramos lived with his mother, Francisca Ramos, on Tamarack Court near Olive Avenue in Chula Vista when she was killed on Oct. 25, 2008. He admitted to using a knife.
Ramos appeared Wednesday before Chula Vista Superior Court Judge Ed Allard III. Ramos remains in jail without bail.
One of the victim’s daughters found her mother’s body around 5:45 p.m. and called police. A broken broomstick was found on the floor.
Ramos was quoted at the time as saying his deceased father had “come to him” in some way and told him to “send her to him” in heaven, according to testimony in the preliminary hearing in 2009. Ramos was attempting to leave the residence before Chula Vista Police officers arrested him.
