Prison is home now for shooter

A Chula Vista man was sentenced Monday to 17 years in state prison for shooting a former co-worker in a personal dispute.

Anthony Hillman Pollock, 37, had already agreed to accept the 17-year term as part of his Oct. 28 guilty plea to assault with a firearm in the Jan. 28, 2016 shooting. An attempted murder charge was dropped.

Chula Vista Superior Court Judge Francis Devaney gave him credit for nearly a year in jail since his arrest. The incident took place at 6:34 p.m. in the 600 block of Date Street in Chula Vista. Chula Vista Police responded to a call of multiple shots fired.

The victim was wounded in  his abdomen but the wound was not life threatening, said Deputy District Attorney Derek Grilz. Pollock and the victim had worked together in the past but they had a personal dispute that was not work related.

Pollock said nothing in court and did not talk about the shooting when he was interviewed by the probation department. The victim was not present at the sentencing.

Grilz said restitution was ordered to pay for the victim’s hospitalization and medical expenses, but the exact amount will be determined in a later hearing.

Police arrested Pollock at his residence in the 300 block of Morehouse Place in Chula Vista.
