May court day for alleged shower stabber

A man who is charged with attempted murder in the stabbing of his girlfriend while she was in the shower will face a May 14 preliminary hearing a Chula Vista judge set on March 21.

Brandon Lee Mason, 29, pleaded not guilty to stabbing his girlfriend around 12:45 a.m. in her home on March 11. She was found outside without clothing on Palomar Street in Chula Vista and taken to a hospital.

Chula Vista Police arrested Mason at 7:20 a.m. the same day near a dumpster at a bank at Eastlake Parkway and Birch Road. The victim was hospitalized in critical condition. Mason is alleged to have committed great bodily injury, an allegation that could lengthen any prison sentence if he’s convicted.

Mason was released from jail for a probation violation just three days earlier involving obstructing an officer. Mason went to prison in 2012 for residential burglary and is on parole, said Deputy District Attorney Mary Loeb. He remains in the central jail without bail.
