Man admits violating children

A 20-year-old Chula Vista man pleaded guilty March 27 to committing a lewd act on a child under the age of 14 years old.

Carlos Isac Ojeda faces a maximum term of eight years in state prison, according to Deputy District Attorney Ted Minahan.

Chula Vista Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sontag set sentencing for July 16. She dismissed four other molestation counts after he pleaded guilty to one count.

The charges say the victim was first molested in July 2011 and was last molested in June 2012.

The prosecutor declined to specify the victim’s gender.

Chula Vista Police officers arrested Ojeda on June 21, 2012. In a press release, it was mentioned that Ojeda worked as a contract tutor at Lauderbach Elementary School in Chula Vista and was a volunteer coach for a local youth football league.

The prosecutor said Ojeda did not meet the victim through his work or sports activities. The victim did not have to testify in open court as Ojeda pleaded guilty just before he was to have a preliminary hearing.

Ojeda’s attorney couldn’t be reached for comment. Ojeda remains in the South Bay Detention Facility on $800,000 bail.
