Healthy one-stop shopping

Add medical services to that long grocery list.

California health center Molina Medical opened a Mi Clinica clinic on July 9 inside the Northgate Gonzalez Market in Chula Vista.

With 19 Molina Medical centers throughout the state, the Chula Vista clinic is Molina Medical’s first entrance in the San Diego market.

The clinic is specifically designed to serve patients who do not have healthcare insurance or do not have access to a personal physician to pay cash for basic medical services, said Gloria Calderon, president of American Family Care, a subsidiary of Molina Healthcare Inc.

“This clinic is not for our Molina members,” Calderon said. “This clinic is basically to take care of uninsured or under insured individuals, so it is basically to provide that service in a community where there aren’t a lot of uninsured and working poor.”

Among some of the basic services provided by Mi Clinica are those for blood pressure, colds, flu, sports physicals and some women’s healthcare. Flu vaccines are also going to be offered.

The clinic will be run by a English and Spanish speaking staff.

Calderon said if a patient needs a follow-up or diagnostics for a chronic condition, the medical clinic will refer patients to other clinics in the area that can provide these services.

Patients are seen on a walk-in basis, so there won’t be appointments.

The clinic is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday and Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday.

The Northgate Gonzalez Market is located at 1058 Third Ave.
